Organised in collaboration with the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP), this webinar explores recent advances in epigenetics that are opening up new possibilities in animal research and breeding.

Recorded live, the webinar features presentations from INRAE and ELIANCE researchers and is chaired by Didier Boichard, INRAE Research Director of the Bovine Genetics and Genomics team within the Animal Genetics and Integrative Biology Laboratory.

By revealing how environmental factors can influence gene expression without altering the DNA sequence, epigenetics provides insights that help breeders select animals with desirable traits more effectively

Understanding epigenetic markers enables breeders to better predict an animal’s production potential and adaptability to various environmental conditions, supporting more precise and sustainable breeding practices. In addition, epigenetic studies, such as those on sperm and blood epigenomes, can enhance the selection process by identifying biomarkers that indicate disease resistance and overall health, ultimately improving livestock performance and welfare.

Speakers and Topics:

  • Hélène KIEFER – Research Scientist, INRAE The potential of sperm and blood epigenome in selection and precision farming in cattle
  • Corentin FOUERE – PhD Student, ELIANCE/INRAE Genetic regulation of sperm DNA methylation in cattle
  • Marie-Pierre SANCHEZ – Research Engineer, INRAE Harnessing RUMIGEN EpiChip data to predict dairy cow performance
  • Didier BOICHARD – Research Director, INRAE Next-Gen Breeding: A Systems Biology Vision
