Academic core labs are adopting new advancements on the Illumina NovaSeq X Series for faster and higher-quality sequencing services.
In this webinar, UIUC core lab director Alvaro Hernandez will share run performance data and his experience as an early access tester of the latest features on the NovaSeq X Series. The presentation will highlight how key advancements can enable labs to streamline workflows, optimize output, and deliver high-quality data faster.

Alvaro Hernandez, PhD
Director of DNA Services, Roy J. Carver Biotechnology Center (CBC)
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Alvaro Hernandez is the director of the DNA Services unit at the Roy J. Carver Biotechnology Center (CBC) at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He has been working with next-generation DNA sequencing technologies since their inception. The unit has a team of nine full-time technicians, a programmer, an associate director, and a director, and it occupies over 4,500 square feet of laboratory space. Hernandez’s main expertise is in DNA and RNA library preparation for a wide range of next-generation sequencing applications using standard and custom chemistries. Additionally, he has extensive expertise in automation of library preparation with high-throughput liquid handlers. The lab serves over 450 researchers on campus and throughout the United States and abroad. The major equipment in Hernandez’s includes an Illumina NovaSeq X Plus, an Illumina NovaSeq 6000, a PacBio Revio, three Illumina MiSeq, an Oxford Nanopore GridION, two 10x Single-cell Genomics Chromium iX systems, and two EpMotion 5075 liquid handling workstations.
