Dawn Barry: There is Nothing More Personal than Your Genome
29 November 2016

What if you could predict when your health was going to break?  Illumina Vice President of Applied Genomics, Dawn Barry, believes that our genomes hold the promise to help us predict and therefore better manage our health.

With genetics known to play a role in 9 out of the 10 leading causes of death in the United States, Dawn Barry argues that we need to be empowered with information about our genetics.  But even more than gaining access to our own genomic information, we need to be sequenced so that the entire community can learn more about the ways in which genetic and environmental factors influence disease, and how to best prevent and treat disease when it occurs.  We all need to be part of a community of research partners because unlocking the information contained in our genomes will require engagement and participation from everyone.
